monday

the momentum wanes come monday morning. i REALLY should sleep earlier.. i caught myself dozing off while observing other teachers in class a couple of times. but its ok when im actually taking a class. Just give me something to do!! i only had like 3.5hrs of effective classroom work today. the rest of the time i was meditating in the teacher's room.

a nice temp. teacher came up to me today to say hi. i was surprised when she said she was 18. haha and she used to be a student of nan hua as well, and together with her, i met another temp teacher as well.

did i tell u there's this teacher who looks like jamie yeo? well there is. she teaches PE as well. hot.

as if being in a special ETD (educational technology division) project isnt enough, im now going to tag along with the p.5's for their adventure camp on the following week! argh.

workload so far is alright... no books to mark. i played hangman with another relief class today. surprisingly even though they're not considered the best class (read: they are the worst class) they're still quite keen to learn new things. Gave them words like "escargot" ("eeee snails?", was the reaction) and "transistor" and "barcode" and how they work.

the feeling you get they finally understand what you've been trying to explain is really really good :D i just hope they dont go home and forget all they've learnt overnight

till tomorrow!!

PS: oh i had a haircut today. fresh new me tomorrow

dream log

i had a dream last night. it was somebody's wedding and the security was pretty tight! i remember seeing some dudes checking a flower box (u know the one arnie uses to hide a shotgun in t2?) and then im in the toilet, or some place where there's a sink doing my hair when some girls are talking behind me. there was a red pimple on the left side of the bridge of my nose. i woke up later.

lighting was a yellowish hue

31st october

yes its the 2nd day at work. and yes i am in school. the brighter bulbs would've placed 2 and 2 together and deduced that i am a teacher. for the rest of you guys and girls, there you go.

im at nan hua primary school, in case you're wondering and its a Gifted Education Program centre. for the non-singaporeans, it means the brightest kids, or those who show lots of potential (i dont know by what criteria) are placed here. no doubt they're excellent - they're learning about the Renaissance and the nature of words and how migration helps create new languages and words. all these in primary 3 (about 8-9 yrs old?)

fantastic. so far i've realised their primary science covers parts of the plant and human cells and certain things that i've only learnt about in sec 3 (16yrs old)

its a great school, teachers are extremely helpful and i see most of them contributing long hours here. i stayed from 7am till 5pm on the first day itself, and me being only a contract teacher who will be here for like 3 months? already i am in a committee whereby they're introducing PDAs and portable Dataloggers in field expeditions to assist them in intergrating IT and Project work.

now working with IT is no biggie with me, but i see some of older teachers being stumped by their 2210 iPAQs. so here i am the hand-hold and guide the way. i guess from a carrer standpoint, being helpful is generally a point in the right direction

food here isnt so bad, initially. but i figure after about the 2nd week, the novelty would wear off and i would start bringing food from home just like one teacher does. he told me (in chinese) that he's sick of the food here and kids dont really mind eating the same food as long as it's their favorite. which made me think - hey thats quite true, i remember when i was a kid, i could have my favorite dish every day till even my mom was SICK of preparing it. guess the ability to chow down the same food day after day is an ability which we lose in our adolescence.

today thursday is STRETCH DAY. meaning everybody including teachers leave the school only after 4pm. im taking a class at 1pm and another at 2 till 4. so its quite a packed day

i have a encounted a couple of anecdotes but i have the short term memory that even a goldfish would laugh at so you will empathize when i say i cant remember any good stories to cover. i will bring a little notebook and pen around to jot the ideas i have, so probably the next post would be something more interesting.

till then,
study hard!

PS> i just remembered i lost my stupid pen. sigh. luckily for me it's a 50cent disposable ballpoint.
