31st october

yes its the 2nd day at work. and yes i am in school. the brighter bulbs would've placed 2 and 2 together and deduced that i am a teacher. for the rest of you guys and girls, there you go.

im at nan hua primary school, in case you're wondering and its a Gifted Education Program centre. for the non-singaporeans, it means the brightest kids, or those who show lots of potential (i dont know by what criteria) are placed here. no doubt they're excellent - they're learning about the Renaissance and the nature of words and how migration helps create new languages and words. all these in primary 3 (about 8-9 yrs old?)

fantastic. so far i've realised their primary science covers parts of the plant and human cells and certain things that i've only learnt about in sec 3 (16yrs old)

its a great school, teachers are extremely helpful and i see most of them contributing long hours here. i stayed from 7am till 5pm on the first day itself, and me being only a contract teacher who will be here for like 3 months? already i am in a committee whereby they're introducing PDAs and portable Dataloggers in field expeditions to assist them in intergrating IT and Project work.

now working with IT is no biggie with me, but i see some of older teachers being stumped by their 2210 iPAQs. so here i am the hand-hold and guide the way. i guess from a carrer standpoint, being helpful is generally a point in the right direction

food here isnt so bad, initially. but i figure after about the 2nd week, the novelty would wear off and i would start bringing food from home just like one teacher does. he told me (in chinese) that he's sick of the food here and kids dont really mind eating the same food as long as it's their favorite. which made me think - hey thats quite true, i remember when i was a kid, i could have my favorite dish every day till even my mom was SICK of preparing it. guess the ability to chow down the same food day after day is an ability which we lose in our adolescence.

today thursday is STRETCH DAY. meaning everybody including teachers leave the school only after 4pm. im taking a class at 1pm and another at 2 till 4. so its quite a packed day

i have a encounted a couple of anecdotes but i have the short term memory that even a goldfish would laugh at so you will empathize when i say i cant remember any good stories to cover. i will bring a little notebook and pen around to jot the ideas i have, so probably the next post would be something more interesting.

till then,
study hard!

PS> i just remembered i lost my stupid pen. sigh. luckily for me it's a 50cent disposable ballpoint.
