3 days of WOMAD.

colin couldn't make it for this year's womad so he passed the job to me. so i have been working for Womad Singapore for the weekends, from friday through sunday. initially, i thought it would be quite a drag, after all, i'm sacrificing my weekend here right? but hell no. it's actually the most fun job i've taken on. ever. (pay's a little low though but since i've been talking about job satisfaction, i guess im gonna have to take the cake and eat it.)

i didnt score any groupies as my friend colin said i would, but i did get a chance to have a chat about drumming techniques with bill cobham, the legendary drummer.

i'm taking time from my psychology homework to do this post.

colin's in the background. (no, he's actually on the right)

having a little tip about finger technique

bill's having a little woMad moment.

Mei Choon, a joy to work with and without her i'd never have these pictures up. Thanks a million!

ever thought what it's like to be cast as an extra in a chinese drama series from singapore? well i know how it's like. not very fun.

the director is the typical crazy domineering type.
the actor and actresses are aloof
and the wardrobe sucks.

but its an experience; not many have walked in mediacorp's lots. the pay is alright. about 8/hr. i did 5 hours for a fucking 2 min scene. most of the time was spent waiting for them to set up the equipment and film the other scenes.

hello.

as i was driving home today, i formulated my essay plan for my communication studies module. the said essay, which is due this coming wednesday, was a bitch to plan for. so now when i finally have got all the necessary planning done (at 120 km/h no less!) i am feeling at peace with myself.

my friend, lynette has a rip-roaring write up, go see.

"annoymous" commented on my previous post,

(i had wanted to reply through the commentry system but i thought this would do nicely as a post instead.)

this is what he/she said

"why be bothered about something that shouldn't be bothering you? singapore ain't worth your time dude "

please dont get me wrong. i really cant be that bothered about singapore. although i was borned and raised here, i have about as much attachment to this country as oil is to a teflon-coated pan.

what i *AM* bothered about is the fact that most singaporeans think that singapore's identity only started 40 years back (hence, 40th birthday), when this place actually has over 180 years of both colonial and post-independance history.

the crux of the matter is, we're not 40 years old, we're 186 years old and i'm just being a accuracy nazi.

context people! context!

"HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE!"...MY FUCKING ASS.

seriously, im sick of all those happy 40th birthday singapore nonsense. what's a "birthday"? the handy dictionary provided by my mac says it is,

" the anniversary of something starting or being founded : the staff celebrated the twenty-fifth birthday of the paper."

in which case, singapore having been founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles, is about 186 years old. SO it's Happy 186th Birthday Singapore, you dumbasses.

we're only celebrating 40 years of INDEPENDANCE.

jesus.

oh yes, i was browsing my school's online discussion groups and there were a bunch of introductory messages on it. one of them calls himself/herself (anita thinks its a guy, i think its a girl), Cell. Tono

yes, you got it. why? he/she says "cell - the basic unit of life. Tono - the one n only" in case you're still fucked over the Tono thing, The One N Only. gedit?

whatever that person is smoking, it must be some good shit.

there's another, very cool person this one. She's a bassist in a singaporean melodic death metal band and that she's a "proud lesbian". i mean, i've been to class, and i certainly didnt meet any goth death metal musician lesbian there! now this is very singular. i will keep my eyes peeled tomorrow. jesus. and melodic death metal? isnt that an oxymoron.

oh while im still in the mood for writing, let me tell you, Cereal is the best ever food! and breakfasty stuff is the kinda food i can have at ANY time of the day. and my friend jessica told me something about bacon and scallop on a stick. oh my god that's gotta be like the food they hand out at st. peter's gate.

let me bitch about my journalism assignment. it sucks. there im done.

what else should i speak about on my birthday. nothing really... so blow out the candles people.

happy birthday me.

im 22years old and just about 12 hours shy of 23. i dont like my own birthdays that much. dont ask me why. it just is. anyway thank you lyn for that nice birthday card on your site :) haha
