i sold my powerbook, and im typing this on a borrowed Fujitsu lifebook. (thanks kailing!)

i realised how fucked up XP was when i plugged in the ethernet cable when XP was up and running and discovering that... *gasp* I was NOT connected to the internet!

now normally, here's how i get online with OS X.

1) boot computer
2) search for wireless networks, if it is passworded, enter password in dialog box
3) if im not using my wireless, i just plug in the RJ45 cable to the side of my powerbook
4) start up Safari/Firefox/Adium and start browsing and chatting.

with XP, using an LAN cable, i had to

1) curse, coz XP says im not connected to the Internet
2) open network connections
3) right click on stupid icons and select Properties to view their set ups.
4) run Network Setup Wizard
5) select what kinda network i'm using at home.
6) Wait while "Windows configures your network..."
7) Reboot
8) wait
9) and wait
10) XP takes a REAL Long Time to start up
11) curse throughly when XP still pethernatretends my network isnt connected.
12) open Network Connections
13) remove unwanted LAN connections
13.5) remove unwanted PROTOCOLS from selected devices (troubleshooting measures)
14) re-run Network Setup Wizard
15) wait while XP configures and reboots
16) while waiting, i fed my hamsters, washed the dishes, read a book AND painted the house
17) got really disgusted as windows now recognizes that i am connected to the internet but INTERNET EXPLORER SAYS I MUST GO ONLINE (what the fuck!?)
18) i click on GO ONLINE, and IE says "TRY AGAIN?"
19) try this you motherfucker..

so i took out my unbuntu Linux LIVE CD. now a LIVE CD is an entire operating system designed to be run from a CD-ROM without any installation or hard disk partitioning/formatting.

1) inserted unbuntu linux live cd
2) rebooted
3) started surfing using Firefox.

Microsoft. I am well and truly disgusted at the kinda shit that you purport to be able to increase productivity and make computing easier for the masses.

well it can't be the laptop, coz the hardware is perfectly fine when im running Linux.

and spyware.. isn't that endemic on windows systems?

so well windows might be "ok la", but it will never be "Great" or anywhere near "Excellent", and that was the point of my post.
